In 1951, William J Levitt purchased land, which would later be named Levittown built six model homes with minor variations between each, complete with lawns, and sold the lots in parcels to people who wanted the American Dream of homeownership. To speed up the building process, he devised an assembly-style process in which construction workers were responsible for one task in a home, and upon completion, they’d immediately move to the next house. This process enabled Levitt’s workers to complete a home every 16 minutes.

Residents were required to comply with a set list of rules regarding the upkeep of their homes, such as a prohibition on hanging laundry out to dry and barring homeowners from fencing their yards. These rules are now regarded as a precursor to HOAs.

Levitt is often credited with creating the modern American suburbs.

The closest large town is Trenton, NJ.

The Great Outdoors

One of the many reasons to rent an RV in Levittown is to gain access to the wilderness without having to rough it. There are several parks in the area, offering a huge array of activities. The closest park, Core Creek Park, is a small 1,3000-acre park with a lake. Lake Luxembourg is popular with local fishermen; it’s stocked with largemouth bass, carp, and a few other varieties. The park management rents out kayaks, canoes, rowboats, paddleboats, and aqua cycles, and offers instructional classes if you’re not familiar with the use of these crafts. In addition to a few miles of hiking trails, there is an off-leash fenced dog area, so that your pup can get a dose of free-range fun, too.

Tyler State Park, also very close by, was once heavily farmed but abandoned at some point. Since then, the woodlands have been slowly taking back the land. Remnants of the old mills, houses, and old barns are still visible. Another spot to hop over to is that of one famous Pennsylvania covered bridges, which crosses the Neshaminy Creek, was restored and still stands today. Take a hike, bike, and go on a horseback ride in this park. Because the creek is so shallow, particularly in late summers, it’s recommended that only light watercraft like canoes and kayaks are used. Fishermen often angle from the banks or while standing in the water. The outdoor fun continues even in winters. Adventurers enjoy cross-country skiing, ice skating, and sledding. Although this park is day-use, there’s plenty of parking for your motorhome rental from Levittown.

RV Parks

When you rent a camper rental in Levittown, you’ll need to park it somewhere overnight. Due to covenants in place, there aren’t many RV campgrounds in the immediate area. The closest option is Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort in New Jersey. Though RV lots are individually owned (rather than owned by the facility), most are available for short-term rental. A “luxury” campground, all of its amenities are premium and top-notch.

Timberland Lake Campground, also in Jackson, NJ may be a good alternative. They include amenities like an Olympic-sized pool, 50 amps, and access to a private lake for fishing and boating, and free hot showers.

Exploring the City

Run up Philadelphia Museum of Art’s “Rocky steps” and reward yourself with a little dance in triumph, a scene made famous by the Rocky movies. Don’t worry -- you won’t be the only one to do this. Step inside to see some of the world’s most famous artists hanging within the museum’s vaulted halls, a few of which are Diego Rivera, Claude Monet, and Vincent Van Gogh.

Don't miss the iconic “Philly Cheesesteak," with hundreds of options in the area, and the subject of which will deliver The Steak is fiercely debated by locals. Visit a highly regarded steak shop or the shop that claims to be the original inventor.

Did you know you can meet the classic, much-loved muppets like Big Bird, Oscar, and Snuffleupagus? Head over to Langhorne and explore the Sesame Place’s storefronts including Hooper’s Store and the iconic 123 stoop, hop onto thrilling rides, sing along with the musicals, and interact with the characters. Sesame Place is a certified Autism Center, the first theme park in the world to receive this certification. If you or someone in your family require accommodations, just ask a park staffer.
