Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is the largest forest in the state, containing over 1.5 million acres of forest land. Much of the old growth forest was logged in the last century but some original trees still remain. The remote areas welcome visitors in the summertime for some rare animal viewing, and the forest becomes a winter wonderland in the colder months.
