Sheboygan, Wisconsin is a pleasant, small city on the shores of Lake Michigan, a city that shouts “perfect vacation destination”. Sitting about halfway between the cities of Green Bay and Milwaukee, and a few hours away from the state capital city of Madison, Sheboygan boasts a bevy of incredible parks, fine dining venues, family-owned shops, and a lively downtown area.
Sheboygan was home to many indigenous tribes in the past but has slowly morphed into an immigrant community with a diverse population. German nationals started immigrating to town following civil conflict in the homeland, and soon after many other waves of people came from countries like Ireland, Lithuania, Serbia, Vietnam, and Laos. Due to the many cultural influences, Sheboygan has become a lively community with lots of reasons to visit and rent an RV.

The marvelous Sanderling Nature Center located in the north side of the park is open from May-October and features an auditorium, nature exhibits about the origins of the Great Lakes, and an observational deck overlooking Lake Michigan. Harrington Beach State Park is even farther south, approximately halfway to Milwaukee; the park has serene swampland, coastal forest, and sand dunes that hold lots of different wildlife important to the local ecosystem. A short drive inland in your Sheboygan camper rental and you will stumble on some great places like Kettle-Moraine State Forest and Sheboygan Marsh State Wildlife Area. Sheboygan Marsh contains glacier water deposited during the last ice age and is considered to be the largest area of restored wetlands in Wisconsin. Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is the largest forest in the state, containing over 1.5 million acres of forest land. Much of the old growth forest was logged in the last century but some original trees still remain. The remote areas welcome visitors in the summertime for some rare animal viewing, and the forest becomes a winter wonderland in the colder months.
It would be difficult to find a more charming and exciting small city than Sheboygan; the downtown area is loaded with designated landmarks on the National Register of Historic Places. The Sheboygan Post Office, the Jung Carriage Building, the Garton Toy Factory, and the Sheboygan Theater are just a few of the historic landmarks in town, each of which shape the heritage of the small city in their own unique ways. The Sheboygan County History Museum pays homage to the county’s history in a variety of ways, with exhibits, tours, and live events for fundraising. The museum is closed during the cold winter months but its doors reopen each February.
Bookworm Gardens has a stunning collection of exotic and local plants in 65 different gardens. The botanical gardens are gorgeous in spring and summer time, and many events and activities happen each day, like garden yoga. Blue Harbor Resort is a massive complex featuring dining options, shopping, spas, and a huge waterpark to keep the children entertained.
