The Great Outdoors

There are many places to choose from and not nearly enough time to see it all in the “Land of Ten Thousand Lakes.” When you pick up your camper rental in Glenwood, you can head in any direction and find fabulous nature parks to check out. Sibley State Park to the southeast is named for the first governor of Minnesota and is a great place to see historical cabins and buildings, swim or fish in the lake, or simply sit out on the sandy beaches while getting your tan on. There are lots of wild animals in this protected area too, so be sure to bring your camera to capture some great photos.

Lake Carlos State Park is found north of Glenwood, giving you yet another opportunity to put your Glenwood campervan rental to good use. The park is one of the state’s premier summertime resort destinations, with fantastic beaches and a bevy of historical landmarks you can check out. The rustic campground facilities and magical landscapes make it obvious why the park remains a popular place to visit for out-of-state tourists and residents of the Twin Cities.

Maplewood State Park is another excellent destination, and it will come as no surprise that it is also situated on the shores of a large and lovely lake. The forest within the park is full of elms, maples, oaks, and other hardwood trees, making for enchanting fall foliage and some fantastic hiking, with some archaeological sites scattered intermittently throughout the groves of trees that populate the park.

Chippewa National Forest is one of the state’s largest federally maintained holdings, with over two-thirds of a million acres to get lost in while you reconnect with Mother Nature. There are hundreds of miles of rivers and streams, vast stretches of old-growth forest, well over 1,000 lakes, and countless trails you can use for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, or snowmobiling, depending on what time of year it is. There are over 100 camping areas too, some of which are developed and can accommodate your Glenwood motorhome rental.

RV Parks

With the popularity of Lake Minnewaska as a summertime destination, there are lots of campgrounds and RV parks scattered around the lake where you can park your Glenwood motorhome rental. The Lazy Pines RV Park is one option, just outside of town and easy to find. This pet-friendly park has playscapes for children, cable TV, internet, private and spacious campsites, and much more.

Woodlawn Resort and Campground is located across the lake from Glenwood, with both cabins and campsites to accommodate guests. The waterfront areas in the park are great for recreation, like throwing a frisbee, swimming, or taking a mid-afternoon nap, and there are swimming areas and waterslides for kids.

Hunt’s Resort is right next to Woodlawn Resort and Campground, giving you other options along the lake’s shore. The park has rental cabins, along with boat launches, fishing areas, and a golfing package for the course next door.

City Attractions

It isn’t the largest or liveliest town in Minnesota, but there'll be plenty to see and do when you rent an RV in the city and take a stroll through its pleasant city streets. The sandy beaches of Lake Minnewaska are enough to make this incredible town worth visiting, with impressive views of the sunset while you dine at any number of restaurants along the water’s edge. The Pope County Courthouse is a beautiful place to see if you like architecture and was built back in 1930. There are other historical buildings to see too if you walk through town.

The Pope County Historical Museum is a really exciting place to put on your list of attractions to visit, with tons of information and exhibits regarding the formation of the small lakefront town. Native artifacts, immigrant and pioneer family heirlooms, historical records, and walking tours of Glenwood are all part of the fun when you visit this excellent institution in the heart of the community.

Depending on what time of year it is, the Pope County Fairgrounds may be hosting any number of events, so be sure to peep at the calendar and plan your trip accordingly. The main event is the Pope County Fair held each July, but there are lots of smaller events hosted at the fairgrounds too. The nearby city of Alexandria gives you even more activities and attractions to consider.
