Located just off Interstate Route 87, Manville is centrally located between New York and Philadelphia. Close to the cities of Edison and Allentown, this is a great place if you are interested in exploring some of the lesser-visited parts of New Jersey.

Originally part of Hillsborough, Manville, NJ, was not incorporated until 1929. The town played an important role during the Revolutionary War due to its strategic location at the confluence of the Millstone and Raritan Rivers. This is what originally put Manville on the map. The town’s significance further intensified after the construction of the Delaware-Raritan canal. These improved transportation links encouraged industry to come to Manville, including the colossal John-Manville Products Corporation factory in the early 20th century.

If you have ever wanted to explore New Jersey’s countryside, laden with culture and history, book an RV rental in Somerset County today!

Discover Manville

The Great Outdoors

New Jersey is nicknamed The Garden State for good reason; it is a state that is abundant in agricultural produce and beautiful open countryside. Manville is no exception to this.

When you rent a motorhome in Manville, Duke's Farm is a must visit. This 1000-acre site is not like your ordinary regional parks. Every inch of this park has been carefully designed and dedicated to the art of exploration. Visitors can discover untouched wild habitats and immaculate orchid greenhouses; attend gardening workshops or have a bite to eat at the ‘’farm to table’’ style café. The farm also offers workshops that follow the daily life of two bald eagles that nest here annually as well as great gardening workshops for kids. Head to their website for a comprehensive schedule of events!

Duke Island Park is located within the grounds of Duke Farm and is arguably the best part. This 350-acre outdoor recreational area follows the canal, offering ample opportunities for biking, bird watching, and even fishing. Keep an eye out for the painted turtles that often sun themselves on the edge of the canal. This really is a tranquil spot, ideal for a moment of peace and quiet.

Another beautiful spot to escape the crowds in your RV rental from Manville, is Colonial Park, just a ten-minute drive south of the city. The historic Delaware and Raritan Canals, as well as the Millstone River, run through this stunning park. The waterways are surrounded on every side by award-winning horticultural displays, and immaculate rose gardens and pristine lawns. Enclosed by all this beauty, visitors can find an 18-hole golf course, several tennis courts, and a kid’s playground to keep the whole family occupied!

RV Parks

Despite its handy location, Somerset County is, unfortunately, lacking in campgrounds to park your Manville camper rental. The best options are found nearer to the coast or nestled into the mountains.

Follow the Raritan River down to Raritan Bay and to find the beautiful Cheesequake State Park. Situated near a huge beach with easy access to the bay, this is an idyllic location. Unfortunately, they do not provide hook-ups for your RV, but there are plenty of toilet and shower facilities. Do note that due to a low hanging bridge, there is an 11-foot high restriction on vehicles entering the camping area.

Why not set up camp in the mountains for the night, where there are a variety of places to camp with your travel trailer rental from Manville. Consider staying at the Spruce Run Recreational Grounds, one of the closest campgrounds to Manville. The location here is second to none, but the amenities are very primitive, so it is best used as a quick stopover. The camps location next to an almost private sandy beach and river, seem to make up for the slight pitfalls.

For a campground with a few more home comforts, head further out to Mountain View Campground. This beautiful, family run campground is nestled into the side of the Musconetcong Mountains. Choose between primitive sites under the canopy of trees or larger, open sites with electrical hook-ups and close access to the toilet facilities.

Exploring the City

It couldn’t be easier to learn about this regions deep history when you rent a motorhome from Manville. This is mainly thanks to The Historical Society of The Somerset Hills; an organisation founded in 1928 with the aim to preserve and promote the areas history. They do this in several ways, including the running of an informative museum as well as hosting regular events. The museum is located around a twenty-minute drive from the city on the edge of Lord Stirling Park. Here, there are thought-provoking exhibits documenting the roots of both Somerset County and New Jersey as well as a room designated for workshops and activities. Give them a call to find out if there is anything on during your visit!

For a further dose of history, take a quick visit to the Old Millstone Forge whilst you are at Colonial Park. This is said to be the home of one of the longest operating blacksmiths in America. When it closed in 1959, the local community pooled together efforts to restore the building and opened it as a living history museum. Walking inside the museum will feel like you have stepped back in time; the museum is as it was one hundred years ago with no electricity, heating, or other modern adaptations!

If you are desperate for a taste of The Garden State’s local produce, Manville Farmer’s market is a must do! Every Friday, local farms and bakers gather on the main street offering some of their best produce! Expect to see a colourful selection of locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as delectable handmade baked goods!

We all need a break from the busy cities from time to time. Consider a luxury motorhome rental in Manville, NJ. Its rich cultural heritage and delicious local produce can provide this weekend of respite!
