Although there are records of farming settlers in the area as early as 1742, it’s unknown how exactly Hatfield got its name. Hatfield, PA is one of the first towns in the area to get electric street lights. Today, in a true small-town fashion, Hatfield is best known for being the birthplace of two professional football players: Jim Molinaro of Dallas Cowboys and Brandon McManus of Denver Broncos.

The closest large town is Philadelphia, a little over 30 miles south. Allentown, is about 30 miles to the north, with Reading, PA, (pronounced as “red-ding”) being 40 miles west.

Discover Hatfield

The Great Outdoors

When you Rent an RV in Hatfield, you will gain access to a world of adventure and fun in the outdoors. This part of Pennsylvania is crowded with lush green oaks and maples, some of which are original old growth forests dating back to the 1600s. Evansburg State Park was once farmland, conquered by the Mennonites, but since it was abandoned, it has returned to its original wild state. Horseback riding and mountain biking are allowed in this park. Enjoy hiking on several miles of trails, and fish from the Skippack Creek. Catch smallmouth bass, brown and rainbow trouts, catfish, and carp. If you’re feeling patient, trap tiny crayfish (aka crawfish or crawdads) and have a “lobster” boil. Note: you must have a license for catching crayfish.

Spring Mountain Adventures offers year-round outdoor recreational activities. Zip from tree to tree on a canopy tour. They boast that their zip lines are one of the fastest in the country, and riders can achieve speeds up to 60 miles per hour. Swing among the stars! Once a week, the zip line course is open at nighttime. In wintertime, the mountain converts to a small ski resort, suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers.

RV Parks

When you book a camper rental in Hatfield, you’ll need someplace to park for a few days while you embark on your adventure. There are several options within a 15 miles radius. The quaintly named Little Red Barn offers full hookups for your RV, plenty of lots, a fire pit at each site, and laundry facilities. Note: the park is open seasonally so please plan accordingly.

Quakerwood Campgrounds, which is similarly closed in winter, provides a fishing pond and a creek running through its grounds, restrooms with hot showers, and a swimming pool for its guests.

Homestead Family Campgrounds is close to several hiking trails and offers additional amenities like free WiFi and a catch-and-release fishing pond.

Exploring the City

In spite of being a small town, there’s plenty of activities and places to see in the area. Elmwood Park Zoo, for instance, is minutes away from town. Hundreds of exotic, wild animals make their home at this Zoo, including bald and golden eagles, blue poison dart frogs, and mammals such as cougars, jaguar, and Jacob sheep.

Hatfield Auto Museum specializes in antique, classic, and hobby cars. The museum is located inside a 100-year-old restored automotive showroom. See (and maybe sit in) exotic cars like a 1917 Buick touring car, 1961 Porsche Coupe, 1977 Sunbeam Tiger, and more. The second floor has a working 19th-century pool table and a themed “old car bar."

Doylestown is known for its quirky homes. The Fonthill Castle, home of Henry Mercer, is made entirely of concrete, built in a mishmash of Medieval, Gothic, and Byzantine architectural styles. The Mercer Museum, on the same property, displays thousands of artifacts from everyday American life in the 18th and 19th century.

Tour the nearby Aldie Museum, which is home to Pennsylvania's Heritage Conservancy, a nonprofit committed to protecting Pennsylvania wildlands. The guided tour will teach you about the Conservancy’s efforts as you wander the stately manor. Please note: the tours are available only twice a month. Call ahead for the schedule.

Peter Wentz Farmland and Morgan Log House depict life in an 18th-century world. Learn what it was like to live removed from society, how they fought to tame the dense Pennsylvania woods, and about their day to day life in those times.

After a long day of adventure and sightseeing in your Hatfield travel trailer rental, visit a winery to relax and unwind. The Cardinal Hollow Winery in West Point is known for experimenting with wines, producing quirky wines such as the jalapeno and agave wines. They have a traditional selection of wines for you to choose from, as well.

Should it be local history and recreational activities, consider a motorhome rental in Hatfield. Enjoy the local cuisine, go on a zip line adventure, watch a sunset, and take in the amazing landscape. Rent an RV in Hatfield, PA and explore the outdoors!
