With the 60-acre lake, boating and fishing is one of the main outdoor activities of the park and makes camping at Tuckahoe State Park perfect for a family vacation. Much of the surrounding land is flooded woodland, with kayaking being one of the best ways to explore the park. You can rent single and tandem kayaks from the park office, and it’s a fun way to discover the different areas here. There’s a boat launch ramp, but remember that gasoline engines are prohibited on the lake and creek. While visiting the more secluded areas of the park by boat, keep an eye out for some of the abundant wildlife that calls this home. Bald eagles, ospreys, and herons are fairly common, and don’t be surprised by an inquisitive visit from beavers or muskrats while in your canoe! If there is a group of you, then maybe the challenge course could be good fun. For groups of eight to 48, the challenge course offers over 12 low-level elements, while the high level has a 40-foot rock-climbing wall, a giant swing, zip line and more to test your nerve and build confidence. Anyone over the age of seven can take part, so long as they fit into the safety equipment. This would make a great family day out. A network of trails criss-crosses the park, suitable for hiking and mountain biking. The Tuckahoe Valley Loop Trail is a nine-mile loop that is graded as easy, giving access to beautiful areas of the park. Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be kept on a leash at all times. Part of this route includes the Pee Wee Trail, an easy 3.6-mile out and back route that is great for kids to enjoy.
