Boat tours on the Loxahatchee Queen Pontoon boat in Jonathan Dickinson State Park are about an hour and a half long and tour the park while floating down the Loxahatchee River. While on the tour, guests will get to stop at the camp of the Wild Man of the Loxahatchee, Trapper Nelson. Park rangers will guide visitors through the buildings and grounds of Trapper Nelson’s camp, which dates back to the 1930s. This is also the site of the area’s first tourist attraction, Trapper’s Zoo and Jungle Gardens, started by Trapper Nelson. Trapper Nelson met an untimely demise in 1968 at the campground, and his death has remained an unsolved mystery. Make sure your rental RV has room for your bicycle. The park offers off-road trails as well as paved trails for fantastic biking. The paved, two-mile multi-use trail is ideal for visitors not as adventurous or skilled. More advanced hikers and bikers will want to check out the Ocean to Lake Trail, just under nine miles long, and the eight-mile Eagles View Trail. Biking-only trails are available on the Camp Murphy Off-road Bicycle Trail System. Pick up a trail guide at Elsa Kimbell Environmental Education and Research Center when you check in. Jonathan Dickinson State Park also offers guided horseback rides that begin at the Eagles View Equestrian Area and wind through the backcountry of the park. Adults and children aged six years and older can participate in the one-hour trail ride. Children under the age of six can enjoy hand-led pony rides that last about 15 minutes. For guests who aren't keen on climbing on the back of a horse, a farm wagon pulled by two Percheron draft horses can accommodate up to 14 people. The farm wagon tours last about 45 minutes.
