The apocryphal story about Pennsburg’s origin says William Penn, the man credited for founding Pennsylvania, purchased the land for "two watch coats, four pairs of stockings and four bottles of cider." Later, Pennsylvania Germans, who later became known as the Pennsylvania Dutch, settled in the area, and a town eventually formed.
