Quakerwoods Campground

Though the Lehigh Valley is primarily an agricultural region, there are several pockets of nearly untouched wilderness nestled in between farms. Nockamixon State Park sprawls over 5,200 acres of mountains blanketed by dense woods of oak, maple, and beech trees. There are several miles of hiking trails, some ascending into the bowels of the mountains, others skirting around the Nockamixon Lake where sailboats and catamarans flit across the surface. Twice a year - in early spring and late fall - the water is released from the dam, and thrill-seeking adventurers are treated to Class II and III rapids on the Tohickon Creek. In especially wet years, Class IV rapids have been achieved in the past. Mountain bikers and horseback riders to have ample opportunities for fun at Nockamixon State Park. There are over 10 miles of trails for bikers, and horseback riders may share a majority of the trails with hikers. However, riders should be aware that hunting is permitted at this park. Horses should be ideally be desensitized to the sound of gunfire. During the hunting season, a little over half of the park is open to hunting, trapping, and dog training. Deer, pheasants, rabbits, and turkey are the typical targets in this park. All hunters must obtain the appropriate license and permit or risk hefty fines. Ever wonder what it’d be like to live like dwarves in the heart of the earth? Descend hundreds of feet into solid rock at Lost River Caverns, near Hellertown, PA, where stalactites and stalagmites line the floor and the ceiling of vast caverns. Search for hidden gems and crystals in nooks and crannies on the guided tours. Learn how semi-precious and precious gems are cut with lapidary equipment in the on-site museum, too. Due to the nature of the tunnels, the Lost River Caverns are not wheelchair- and stroller-accessible.
